VETERANS BURIED AT BETHEL UNITED CEMETERY IN MINDEN

(Please note that the Haliburton Legion only has a database for the Evergreen and St. Anthony's RC Cemeteries)

Anne Dunec placed two crosses of her parent's grave site. Both Marjorie and Melvin Robertson were veterans in WWII

If you have a relative that is a veteran but is not on my list at the Evergreen or St. Anthony's RC Cemetery, please email Linda Heeps at celtic.cross@sympatico.ca with a name, location of plot, photo of tombstone if possible, birth and death date, some information of their service and I will include them in the 2020 Veteran Decoration Day event.

THANK YOU

VETERANS DECORATION DAY

September 21, 2020

This year under COVID 19 rules we could not invite the public.  Hopefully, next year we will be back to the usual practices.

I would like to thank:

  • Dysart et Al Municipality and St. Anthony’s RC Church for given the Haliburton Legion permission for our Annual Veterans Decoration Day at the Evergreen and St. Anthony’s RC Cemeteries.

  • Jack Briggs (Evergreen Cemetery)  for having the grass cut and trimmed just prior to the event.

  • (late) Bill Timms, Bill Fry, Jack Briggs and Adele Espina (Haliburton Highlands Genealogy Group) for helping with the developing of a database of 143 veterans between both cemeteries.

  • Our sponsors The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 129 Haliburton, The Haliburton Legion’s Ladies Auxiliary and the Haliburton & District Lions Club

  • Haliburton Legion President Paul Sisson for chairing the event and the Haliburton Legion Executive for all their support.

  • Gord Kidd for providing the music including the "Tribute to Veterans", "Amazing Grace" and songs while we placed the crosses.

  • The Color Party:  Sgt in Arms Nick Bryant and Brian Hambly, Roger Yearwood, Alex McCracken and Val Jarvis.

  • Lion Betty and David Mills for the loan of their tent.
